Alternate SMTP port

For those of you (Like me.) that their ISP blocks outgoing traffic on port 25- use 587. Cox blocks outgoing traffic on port 25 to suppress SPAM, you can only connect to their servers.

Moved intelexual.com

A little HSphere 'feature'.

One thing- you may need to go into the control panel and enable the default document, according to what you're using. (index.html, default.aspx, index.aspx, etc.)

It's Domains/Web Service/Edit (The little hammer)/Directory Indexes/Edit

Personalized WAV files for your Windows system events or whatever (Free)

Want to create some spoken phrase WAV files and don't really want to shell out the bucks for some software you'll only use a couple of times?

For example- I now have a nice lady with an English accent  named Audrey letting me know when I have new email. (“Joe, you have new email.“) Just type in the phrase, check the “Display a link for the audio file.“ checkbox and you're ready to download the WAV file. (Put it in %WINDIR%\Media\ .)

NASA Genesis mission- I missed this news last October

Remember last year the satellite that was supposed to be snatched from the air with helicopters equipped with special hooks- but smashed into the desert? It turns out it's an example of how things can go wrong even after being tested to death.

The probable cause is that two g-switches (Accelerometer switches.) were installed upside-down. Before you blame the guy who assembled the PCB- he followed the design to the letter. In other words- Lockheed supplied the faulty design.

NASA link two

It would seem to be fairly easy to devise a non-destructive test to verify that the circuit would fire when hit with force from the appropriate direction.

3D Banners for free

I must admit that I have a half dozen programs that could do this, but you need to be a rocket scientist to run them! (I wonder which is more complicated- modern object oriented programming or building rockets?) Anyway, I'm trying to create a logo, was checking out several sites.

This one is a bit gaudy... (Only 12k) Click to go there.

Another one. (Only 1k)

Well, probably should leave this up to my progeny, who has a lot more talent with this stuff than me.

Hate to give your email address to potential spammers?

Try SpamGourmet. After signing up at SpamGourmet you simply use your newly created email address like this: PotentialSpammer.5.MySpamGourmetAddress@SpamGourmet.com. For example if your address is Joe and the site that wants your email address is Site.com then you give Site.com 'Site.5.Joe@SpamGourmet.com'. The '5' is how many emails you want to make it through to you before invalidating the address. Check 'em out.

MIT OpenCourseWare (Free courses from MIT)

Certainly looks like someone in a remote area with a desire to learn and an Internet connection could get one heck of an education- for free. I've been reading the material for the Information and Entropy course.
